My name is Deb Harris, the founder of TeamWorx,
LLC. I graduated from Loyola College, Baltimore, in 1982, with a B.S. in
Accounting. I became a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and worked in
public accounting and in private industry, focusing on small businesses with up
to 50 employees.
In 1987, I joined my
sister and her partner in starting a nationwide insurance and tracking services company (Lease
Tracking Services, Inc.), as their accountant. A few years later, I became a partner and the
Treasurer, managing the
accounting and computer departments until 1998. Then we discovered a
powerful assessment tool; the Kolbe Concept®. Little did we
know the incredible changes that were about to occur!
At that time, we were suffering from internal
conflict, low morale, high employee turnover, dissatisfied customers, plus we
were five weeks behind in our production schedule. Can you imagine the
negative impact this had on our bottom line? Does any of this sound
familiar? With nothing
to lose, we decided to drastically change the responsibilities of two of our
managers based on our Kolbe ATM results. I was one of those
managers. I became the Chief Operating Officer (COO), responsible for
managing 80% of our staff and our internal processes. The other manager
became responsible for resolving customer complaints and creating new services.
Within six months of this
change, internal conflict diminished, morale was higher than ever, and employee
turnover was nonexistent. Customers started complimenting us on our prompt,
courteous and innovative service, and we were on schedule and more productive
then we had ever been! Can you picture the positive impact this had on our
bottom line? We never imagined we would see such tremendous results so
quickly! It became clear that the key to a highly effective team was to
align all of us into the "right fit" jobs.
I was hooked! It became
my quest to
learn as much as I could about human behavior and motivation,applying these
concepts to the workplace. I received
training in Kolbe, Myers Briggs and the Enneagram. I discovered
my passion and ability to integrate the unique talents, what I refer to as the
"star-ability", of the individual to create an empowered team!
My background in small business as a CPA,
Treasurer, COO and owner, plus my strong organizational skills and unwavering
belief that every person has a unique talent to discover and share, led me to create TeamWorx
in 2002. Since then, I've had the privilege and pleasure of working with a
number of small businesses from various industries.
